La chirurgie du menton
Chin surgery or genioplasty increases the projection of the lower face in patients with a receding chin (retrognathia).
Several techniques are possible:
- an increase in projection by placing a silicone implant via the vestibular route (through the mucosa of the mouth in front of the teeth). This does not give visible scars and allows for very precise projection.
- an increase in chin volume by lipostructure (fat injection) which gives a good projection. This technique is less safe because the fat can be partially reabsorbed.
The bone advancement of the mandible also allows to find a more projected profile. This is an intervention which requires the use of screws and in some cases titanium plates.
Regardless of the technique, this surgery allows for better projection of the chin and a rebalancing of the facial structures.
It is often associated with rhinoplasty in order to have a harmonious and natural contour.
The post-operative period is generally not very painful; pain relief treatment will be prescribed as well as physiotherapy to improve the tone of the chin muscles.
